Cell Function and Imaging Core (Harvard Digestive Diseases Center)

Overview of Services located at Boston Children's Hospital - Enders 6th Floor

The Imaging Core – (BCH subsection) makes available to the research community modern motorized microscopes capable of multiple modes of imaging of both live and fixed biological samples.

The Epithelial Cell and Mucosal Immunology Core – (BCH) provides the infrastructure, biologic resources, expertise, and training for innovative and cross-disciplinary research on epithelial biology and immune function in mucosal surfaces and solid organs of the GI tract.

Overview of the BCH Cell Function and Imaging Core/Harvard Digestive Diseases Center

The Harvard Digestive Diseases Center (HDDC) is an NIH-funded Center that serves a broad community of scientists conducting basic and translational research relevant to the gastrointestinal tract. The HDDC facilitates multidisciplinary research and collaboration among independent investigators in Harvard-affiliated hospitals, the Harvard Medical School (HMS) and adjacent research institutions in the Harvard Longwood Medical Area and Boston.

The BCH Cell Function and Imaging Core (CFIC) is an integral BCH backed core facility. It is not a different facility from the HDDC center. The HDDC is a subset of of the larger CFIC core. All equipment and services are available to any and all researchers at Boston Children's Hospital. The CFIC contains a wide variety of microscopes, flow cytometers, specialty analyzers (exosomes, metabolism, etc). We also employ experts to aid useage of each machine and service.

We have a major focus on the intestinal and inflammatory bowel diseases; gut microbiology; and stem cell and developmental biology of the intestine and liver in organ physiology, regenerative medicine, and metabolism.

The HDDC supports four Scientific Cores:

  • Microscopy and Histopathology Core
  • Epithelial Cell Biology and Mucosal Immunology Core
  • Center for Clinical and Translational Metagenomics
  • Clinical Studies Statisticians and Biorepositories

Please see the HDDC web page for further details (http://www.hms.harvard.edu/hddc/index.html)
